The End Has Come? Empty
PostSubject: The End Has Come?   The End Has Come? EmptyThu 17 Apr 2014, 13:27

Zas still in lupus form sniffs into the wind as it rushes past his face, searching for any foul smell that would indicate the presence of the Wyrm. Detecting nothing but the seemingly peaceful wilderness of the open country side, he turns to face his companion Mocks-The-Night.

Speaking in mothers tongue Zas says, "You are silent. You have been since leaving the caern. Does Malchizadek's omen trouble you? Or do your thoughts run elsewhere?"

Without turning to look at him Kefka speaks softly.
"Elsewhere my friend. My thoughts fly to Harriet and my unborn. It's been too long, and it will always be too long. Will the Litany ever allow a respite so i might get to know my child, or will the child be forced to grow up fatherless as I serve Gaia and conquer the wyrm" he sighs as he finishes speaking. Still staring off into the horizon.

Zas nods in understanding and arches his head up to look at Kefka as he says, "The future remains unwritten. I know little of children. What I know of them is most of what is needed now is time for the mother and child. You could do little now other than protecting them. By fighting the Wyrm and fulfilling Gaia's call, you serve them in the best way."

He then sits on his hind legs and wraps his tail around his body as he returns his gaze to the road.

After several moments of silence he says, with his ears pressed forwards at attention, "Do you think Makchizadek's actions were wrong?"

Kefka snorts.
"You are the philadox, you tell me. We Ragabash know no right, or wrong. We just do as we please."

He chuckles and turns toward Zas.

"There were two roads before us. Each had merit and flaws. Each held rewards and consequences. The travelers on each road each served Gaia. The travelers would deceive you claiming their path is true, condemning the other path. We must not become blind like them. Neither road right, nor wrong. Just different paths leading to the same destination. Death serving Gaia. The paths are equal."

He pauses and closes his eyes in thought. Holding a hand up to prevent Zas from interrupting him.

"The servants of Gaia are many, the ways to serve her equal, if not greater. We did not choose between right and wrong. We simply made a decision about who to fight the wyrm with next."

Zas tilts his head to the side, "You don't trust in Roaring jack? We chose to follow his cause. What deceit do you find in him?"

Zas bares his teeth as he says, "As a philodox, I seek to find truth, uncover lies. For me, knowing what is right is a must. Knowing the right path is not always clear. This is why I ask you these questions. You see things differently. Fighting the Wyrm is good, but having deceit among ourselves allows the Wyrm a foothold. If you see deceit in any of the elders, please let it be known."

Zas then blinks once before adding, "I hope we have chosen the honorable traveler."

Kefka nods when Zas explains his job as philadox.

"Deceit in Roaring Jack? Not so much. I more worry about those who follow him. He at least sees strength in other forms than muscle, but he still believes Mal and Claws of Silk are both wrong. His army will follow those beliefs. They know where we stand though. They will leave us alone and continue to deceive themselves. Which may not be a bad thing. The lies we tell ourselves give us strength, purpose and passion."

Kefka takes his hat off and runs his hands through his hair.

"Roaring Jack is honorable. He listened to our side of Perdido, knowing that Warbreath was biased. He also was blunt and honest when discussing our rites. I believe he will continue to shoot straight with us."

Zas takes another breath catching the untouched scent of the prairie on the wind which included, a rabbit some distance away and the oak trees wooden musk rising ever so faintly from the bark. His ears detecting a groundhog family and a wandering deer semi-nearby.

He looks forwards at the open area and says, "I agree. The Get of Fenris tribe does what they feel is best. Roaring Jack has a difficult road."

Zas then pauses as he thinks briefly before saying, "You did not answer my other question. You say Malchizadek's way serves Gaia. I asked about his actions. His decision to try and rush the rites without being in the presence of the other Garou- as is tradition. His decision to clear us of any blame. Was he right in these things?"

Kefka sighs as places his hat on his head. And shrugs before speaking.

"There are things more important than tradition. If the apocalypse is as near as Mal fears... then it is no surprise to advance us in rank and send us out to fight the wyrm immediately. I believe if Roaring Jack was sure the world was ending soon he would act the same. So no i don't feel he was wrong. As for absolving us of our alleged crimes...i feel he was right also. Apocalypse or not we are losing the war against the wyrm. Petty squabbles that will divide the garou nation are unnecessary. The Elders believe that too, or we wouldn't be standing here."

PostSubject: Re: The End Has Come?   The End Has Come? EmptyFri 18 Apr 2014, 11:10

Zas bows his head to the ground. "You feel no wrong of any sort from our time in Perdido? Was the cost we paid in blood not too great?"

Zas lays down and sighs, "Tradition is not the most important thing, but it is important. Being recognized for our deeds is something of great value. It is to be shared and rejoiced over, not shuffled through quickly behind closed doors. If the end is near, are we not worthy of facing it with the honor and glory that our ancestors carried into their final days? Forgetting who we are, what we have done, and where we have come from in the face of our foes dirties Gaia's calling for us. I feel Malchizadek was wrong."

"The litany was unbroken by us. On that I agree. Malchizadek however cleared us of ALL wrong. I feel we should at least carry the burden of knowing that if we-the throat Tearers included, had convinced Roaring Jack's son to see the foolishness of trying to fight the Wyrm spawn: the skin rippers, on even footing when we knew so little about them and and were outnumbered. Great leaders don't simply make decisions, they listen to others. He was willing to hear us, but we did not give good council. For that, I feel we should be held accountable."

Zas looks to his friend and asks, "Do you feel differently?"

Kefka looks into the eyes of Zas, the Philadox.

"I do feel differently. We did the best we could in Perdido. By carrying the weight of Frost Blood's death we will only slow ourselves down. Things didn't go as we planned, that does not mean we were wrong. It means we need to learn and do better next time. It's only wrong when you repeatedly make the same mistakes, knowing what the consequences are."

He pauses and begins to pace back and forth.

"Not everything can be separated into right and wrong. The world is not that easy."

Zas snaps his mouth as he says, "This is why you are the Ragabash and I the philodox. You have the means to see issues as being shades of gray. I must see things as one way or another. There has to be distinction for me to deal out judgement and to interpret the Litany.

I do not say that our plan was wrong, or even our response to the changes the enemy threw at the plan. I say that we did not do enough, and for that we are wrong.
Our best was not enough in Perdido. Learning from our mistake is vital, I agree, but we have to admit that we made a mistake to learn from it. In my eyes, we have blood on our hands.
"

He sits up again stretching his fore legs and arching his back as he says, "I do not say this to persuade you to my way. I say this to inform you of my minds thoughts. I cannot keep this to myself. The blood of my enemies I can relish in. The blood of my brothers I cannot...accept. The rites we face ahead of us, that would see us raise in rank...the Elder to remove the crimson stains I carry in order for me to feel as though I earned my rank must be Roaring Jack. I am glad that Malchizadek saw our deeds as remaining true to the litany, but in my mind his purification does not cleanse me-Only Roaring Jack has that capability. If I am to raise in renown and worth, he must be the one to allow it."

Zas turns to his friend and says, "Right or wrong, this is my choice. What do you think?"

PostSubject: Re: The End Has Come?   The End Has Come? EmptySun 20 Apr 2014, 01:08

Kefka stares at The Philadox with pity in his eyes. Pity carries through his voice as well giving way to anger the more he talks.

"I think i do not envy you friend. You agreed that we did our best in Perdido. But then you say we didn't do enough and for that we are wrong. You say there is blood on our hands because Frostblood died. If that is true are All Friend's, and Lune Stalker's blood on our hands also? We did our best in Nacogdoches too, yet they fell in battle. Where were the punishments then? Where was the moral dilemma then? Did we not know them longer than Frostblood? Did you search for their justice?"

He takes a deep breath to calm down before talking again.

"The wyrm is strong. Garou fight for Gaia, and die for Gaia. We know the dangers of our duty but we fulfill it anyway. You can't when a war without casualties."

Kefka gives a wink and chuckles.

"The best you can do is payback the damn rat bastards
tenfold. And with joining Roaring Jack on the war path... I am certain we will have or revenge. He trusts us. It's why he asked us to join him, and why he wants to raise us in rank. If he held us accountable for Frostblood's death... do you really think he would be doing that?"

The End Has Come? Empty
PostSubject: Re: The End Has Come?   The End Has Come? EmptySun 20 Apr 2014, 02:01

Zas listens intently at his packmates reply, gazing mournfully as he mentions the fallen of the Camino Real. Upon Kefka posing his question Zas B'ul gets up and walks around in a circle, in a manner that could resemble pacing, lost in his thoughts.

After several minutes of contemplation Zas keeps moving in a pattern but says, "The fallen of the Camino Real caern are remembered by the sept leader Red-Oath. She bears the weight of their noble sacrifices, for it was her decision that eventually led to their deaths...this is the price to be paid for being a leader. Accepting whatever outcome, in any end-good or ill. The casualties serve as bitter reminders.

You misunderstand my words. I do not aim for us as a pack to be punished for Frost-Bloods devotion and sacrifice, at least not in the way you think. My aim is for us to be among those who honor him in a more personal way as we knew him in his final hour. By Malchizadek's decree that we are clean of anything and everything, the honor falls solely upon the Throat Tearers and Frost-Bloods kin.
"

Zas stops and sniffs the area again, but detecting nothing continues, "The Wyrm will be punished and destroyed, the quicker, the better-the fact that the Litany demands it be ended reinvigorates me all the more. I obey this rule of the Litany above and beyond the others so that those who have passed on before me in service to Gaia may be honored and remembered through our shared sacrifice. So yes, we will have our revenge.

Roaring Jack however is not an easy one to discern. I do not fully know why he asks for our support in his cause. I do know that he sees our pack as a force to be reckoned with, and as a Get of Fenris he respects our strengths-varied as they may be.

I do not believe he holds us solely responsible for the death of his son, but he acknowledges that we played a role in it, and for me personally, that is why until he himself speaks words of forgiveness and pardons me, I cannot accept moving forwards in rank.

I do not expect you or the others to feel the same though. My tribe as I have come to learn of them, has a different relationship with death. As such, I too tend to view the fallen of Gaia differently and place more importance upon their passing; something that others may deem unnecessary.

If my words stir anger within you I will stop speaking. Perhaps I was unwise to speak my thoughts aloud on these matters...as they are so fresh in our hearts
"

PostSubject: Re: The End Has Come?   The End Has Come? EmptyMon 21 Apr 2014, 18:41

Kefka sits down while Zas is speaking. He pulls his knives out and begins to sharpen them. He doesn't respond for a couple of minutes. He speaks as he begins to sharpen his other one.

"Your words do stir anger. An anger from my ancestors. You are doing a great dishonor to the memory of Frost-Blood. There is no forgiveness to be had because Frost-Blood made the choice to fight the skinrippers. I think he knew for our trap to work decoys would be needed. He knew by being a decoy a swift death might await him. Yet he chose to make a noble sacrifice. Which you tarnish. By wanting forgiveness for his death you are taking his choice away."

He pauses and looks Zas in the eyes.

" By your own words you say that Red Oath bears the weight of the losses, because she is the leader and it was her decision. Frost-Blood was adren, and the leader. The decision was his. He bore the weight, and paid the price."

Kefka puts his other knife away and stands up stretching.

"That is unless you believe you were the leader in Perdido..."

The End Has Come? Empty
PostSubject: Re: The End Has Come?   The End Has Come? EmptyMon 21 Apr 2014, 20:04

Zas upon hearing Kefka reply, goes deathly silent. He makes no move to speak again until Kefka poses his last question, at which point he squints his eyes in focus and concentration.

"Frostblood was of adren rank. He was the Throat Tearers alpha, and by that he was their leader. He however did not lead us. He was not our leader."

Zas watches Kefka intently for any sign of sudden or aggressive movement.

"The litany calls for us to respect those of higher rank. I respected and continue to respect Frostblood and his choices. Leaders however, give instructions. Leaders give direction and provide wisdom and insight. He did not do these things for our pack.

Was I the leader? Yes. Was Zoe the leader? Yes. Was Rends, or Eaton? Were you? In my mind, yes. It was our plan to trap the enemy. We each contributed to the plan. Since we lack a chosen alpha, each of us become our own leader and take on the shared duties of an alpha...which has both good and bad sides.

Frostblood played the role he felt was needed and chose to fight how he felt comfortable. As one who helped create the plan of attack though, it fell unto me to give instructions to him. To give insight to him. To direct his actions. I failed to do this.

My failure as a leader to give better instructions, more direction, more insight, led to his sacrifice and death. It is no dishonor to his memory for me to seek forgiveness for my own shortcomings. He followed the plan. He played his role as was expected. He lead his pack. He obeyed the Litany. He was in the right to do as he did. I simply did not lead well.
"

Zas' voice grew into almost a shrill whine by the end of his reply.

After several seconds Zas regained his composure and spoke again, "If my words offend your ancestors, this is unfortunate for I can do nothing. I cannot change how I think and view what has happened. I cannot seek peace with them if they wish for me to honor Frostblood differently because I do not see my view as wrong. The most I can do is seek to make amends with you by asking that you intercede on my behalf and convince your ancestors that there is more than one way to honor the fallen and to see that the way I feel about my role in Perdido is my own."

PostSubject: Re: The End Has Come?   The End Has Come? EmptyTue 22 Apr 2014, 18:45

Kefka sighs and takes his hat off as Zas finishes speaking. He runs a hand through his hair, scratching his head as he does so. When he speaks it is slowly. Each word being carefully crafted before being uttered.

"Do you realize what the consequences will be if you actively seek forgiveness? The implications behind your words? You will say "I need forgiveness for the Death of Frostblood." They will hear "I had a part in his death." You will say "I could have done more." They will hear "I was weak."

You are apart of us. If you are weak, we are weak. If you had a part in his death, we all had a part in his death. It would turn the Get, possibly the entire caern against us. Especially if you bring it up now. Roaring Jack wants to raise us up in rank. Roaring Jack wants us to march with him against the wyrm to save the Uktena. Do you honestly believe he would be doing this for us If he didn't trust us? If he doubted us? If he thought we had a part in his son's death?

It might make you feel better if Roaring Jack said the words "I forgive you.", but his much are you willing to risk. Is it worth possibly endangering us? You are thinking how it would affect you, you need to think how it will affect us as a pack.

You need to beat yourself up, fight your own demons, do whatever you need to do. Hell try to talk to Frostblood himself, you see dead people yeah? I will help however i can, i am sure we all
will. But i won't let you endanger the pack so you can sleep easier at night."

PostSubject: Re: The End Has Come?   The End Has Come? EmptyTue 22 Apr 2014, 19:51

Zas growls at his friends measured response, but makes no move to strike...allowing him to finish his words, all the while continuing to pace around the ragabash.

After Kefka speaks Zas eyes gaze out into the distance with barely concealed rage burning behind them. He says nothing for several long minutes, but does eventually come to sit beside his packmate.
When he speaks his words sound angry at first but soften as he continues.
"Frostbloods death I will carry with me...So be it! I do not intend for anything to befall this pack-certainly not by my hand! I am certain none of the others feel as I do. I do not understand how others perceptions should dictate my actions, but, you....you do. You speak from concern for the pack. You see how our actions will effect others and aim to prevent potential future issues. I see no wrong in your path. I am uncertain of mine.

This is why I speak with you. You view the path we take differently than I. You see hidden threats. I do not like having multiple paths to take...it makes reaching a decision more difficult. More rocky.

The Get respect strength. Showing weakness, real or perceived would hurt our chances of cooperation. I do not like this. I do not enjoy hiding the truth, but you provide alternative solutions. I can seek peace with Frostblood or his ancestors perhaps. This is good.

Thank you my brother. Your council is well taken.
"

Zas then paws at the ground and grows quiet, returning to his silent stance.
