Forging Love Empty
PostSubject: Forging Love   Forging Love EmptyMon 19 Jun 2017, 01:32

-CLANK-Clink!- The hammer bounces off and away slowly, firmly held in skilled hands, long accustomed to the rigorous pattern of beating heated metal into new forms.

-Clank-clink!- The sound rings out into the Texas night air unobstructed. Just a lone Ironworker slaving away at his chosen craft.

There's a loud -Hiss!- followed by a cloud of steam as the Irishman moves his latest heated item into the slack tub of cool stream water.

Setting his work tools and apron on his bench, he rolls his neck and stretches letting out a loud sigh.

"If that set of wagon rod and wheels don' meet 'is fancy, why I think I'll go grab a pint." Connor chuckles to himself, "Course Id'a done tha' anyway."

An older couple walks past his shop heading for their home, giving a friendly wave.

He returns the wave and lets out another sigh. Talking to himself again, "You lot go on an' have a good evenin. Lord knows I envy ya having a warm bed waiting for ya."

The blacksmith watches wistfully as they make their way around the corner. He steps out into the street and looks up in the night sky and offers a quick silent prayer asking for safe travels for his love, before beginning to make his way to his home.

The kinfolk gets a few houses down before he realizes he forgot to grab the hinge he'd made for the door frame that had come loose during the last storm. Muttering under his breath something about his mother trying to get him to quit drinking from beyond the grave, as he turns back to pick up his needed home repair item.

Just as he reaches to grab the hinge, coming from around the corner followed by a substantial amount of road dust is Zoe at the controls of the wagon much to his delight. The two oxen pulling the heavy load let it be all to clear their displeasure at making such a long day's journey with grunt and groans, but grew quiet as the laden cart came to a halt in front of a water trough which the two creatures readily drank from.

Connor's face fills with a none to small grin as he says once the bulk of the trail dirt disperses, leaning up against the center post of his shop, "Well ain' you a sight for sore eyes."

He gives the wagon a look over from his current position and not seeing anything in dire need of repair, steps forward to offer a hand to Zoe to help her down, silently offering a prayer of thanks he wasn't going to have to repair another wagon before the week's end.

"I don' see your posse of fellas with ya...ya scare 'em away?" He says still wearing a bigger smile.

Zoe was worn and weary from the travels. Her physical body was mostly unaffected, but her mind and emotions were spent. Her attire was filthy, her hair unwashed for weeks. But at the first sight of her beloved, everything else faded away. She hadn't realized just how much she had missed her man. She laughed at his comment.

"Your sore eyes must been losing their vision, O'Bryan, but right now I'm too tired to argue with ya."

He grabbed her around the waist and hoisted her down from the wagon. She planted a quick kiss on his lips and smiled the most genuine smile she'd had in weeks. He pulled her back and kissed her longer. She playfully hit him on the chest and shook her head.

Her face grew sad and her eyes dropped to the ground.

"As far as my pack is concerned, well, it's a tragic tale and I alone have escaped to tell their story for generations to come."

A small smile attempted to turn up the edge of her lips, but she forced them down and sold her story even more with a perfectly timed sniffle.

Connor's smile fades for a moment as he somberly nods his head and grips his wife in a side hug as the two begin walking as he says, "Tis true...those brave, brave boyos. A pint for each of 'em I says."

He gives a quick sigh after a very short pause, "...but that's enough grievin' for now"

A devilish smirk flashes across his face,"I guess now there's naugh' but one t'ing left ta do--" as he gives the theurge a firm squeeze letting her have further glimpses at his meaning.

In a flirtatious and facetious tone of voice he continues, "I should get you off your feet for a biteen...and console ya in this trying time. Tis the gentlemanly t'ing ta do afterall."

He stifles a chuckle, "Me husbandly duty, it is."

The blacksmith looks at Zoe and says with a playful smile, "But more to da point. Even if me eyes have started to go, at the very least, I know a little bundle of joy that's been missin ya somet'ing fierce and will be all too happy to have ya home with your boots off for however long you can stay- she won't care what ya look like."

He leans away from her for a minute and says half joking, under his breath "--Or what ya smell like."

Though he doesn't say it outright, it starts to become apparent even through his endearing Irish charm that as happy as he is Zoe is home, he is worried that her return may not be as innocuous or simple as it appears.

He steers the oxen away from the water trough and to the nearby stables as he unhooks the wagon and sees it safely locked up for the night. While unharnessing the beasts of burden, he tries to make small talk with the tired garou, "So is it top secret or do I get ta know what ya brought with ya in tha' cart? These creatures look pretty well crocked and knackered-you seem to have wanted to get here in a hurry."

He smiles as he turns to her, "Course I don' rightly blame ya...I'd miss me too."

Zoe laughed and playfully pushed away her beloved Irishman.

"Now now there will time for all that foolishness later. Before that, I need to see my wee one! I've been missing her more than you know!"

As they walked, Zoe informed him about their time in Galveston, their interactions with the mages and the Get, the reunion with her father who she cannot remember, and the gate he fashioned for them.

"You really must take some time to look it over. I've never seen finer craftsmanship! Except in your shop, of course!"

She grins and gives him a peck on the cheek.

"I think the king may ask me to oversee the rite to bind a spirit into it. This is certainly the largest fetish I've ever worked with!"

She stopped and turned to him.

"But enough about me. Tell me what you and Agatha have been up to! Is she walking? Has she said her first word? Does she play well with the other Garou children?"

Her excitement dies down a bit and her face grows solemn.

"I hope she remembers me."

"Jeezus-Mary-and Josef! You 'n' your furry band of brothers 'ave been busy!" Exclaimed the Irishman.

As he secures the oxen he turns to Zoe after she finished her barrage of questions with a smile, "How could she forget ya?"

He tosses the animals some food as he says, "But-to your questions, she's brilliant I tells ya. She is pretty near to taking her first steps. An' of course she does right with the others-she's got that Irish charm an' is smart as a wick. They truly don' stand a chance again' it. Her first words were f--, eh, well suffice it to say she got her mothers looks but her daddy's mouth."

He listens as Zoe says he should inspect the handworked gate and nods with a wink, "If t'at's what ya want, yes, I will take a peek up your skirt. Be glad ta see what your pa gave ya. Who knows-I might even learn a new trick of the trade?"

Having seen to the animals, and at Zoe's insistence he returns to the cart and defly rather giddily pulls off the tarp to take a gander at the metalwork of Zoe's dad.

He eyes the bends and welds of the gate making an occasional hm or low utterance to himself. He runs a skilled hand across the smooth cold iron until his hand comes to a stop midway through a beam and after a long pause he turns to look at Zoe his smile gone but the twinkle in his eye shined fiercely.

"I 'ave never in all my days, come across anything like t'is. Your father is a true craftsman. Only a fellow Irishman could make something of this caliber. My best works will never know t'is level of mastery with a forge.Tis made by the angels it is." The blacksmith says in a hushed awed reverence.

Connor looks at Zoe and then back to the work. "I'd like to 'elp you with t'is. If my name can be associated or affiliated in any way in the working of t'is piece I would consider it the highest honor."
