Keeping Charge Empty
PostSubject: Keeping Charge    Keeping Charge EmptyFri 18 Nov 2016, 21:48

The Prodigals headed back to the Breakwater Sept as the Gibbous moon watched from above. As he walked, Eaton finished writing out the details of the meeting with Padre, still rather amazed at how well the meeting had gone. Actually, he was amazed at how well the week had gone. Getting along with the temporary pack members, discovering vital information about the Uktena’s whereabouts, actually rescuing the orphans . . . surely the other shoe would drop eventually, but for now the Galliard couldn’t help but feel elated for the time being. It had been going well ever since Rends and Zas were . . .

Eaton looked up from his pages and over to Kefka, who led the way back to the caern. The reason for their fortune was clear to the Galliard and now, it was time to make it clear to the Alpha. He had thought to bring his proposal up sooner, but given their last mission, his case was stronger than ever.

Eaton pulled right alongside Mocks and said, “Well, ya got us back to Galveston in one piece. I guess the last thing we need to do is report to Robert and trade these Get back for our packmates, but I’m thinkin’ the tougher part of our task is dealt with.”

He smiled, teeth flashing in the moonlight as he met the Alpha in the eye, “And you were so worried before we set out how things coulda gone. Have relieved ya must feel! Honestly, when was the last time we had such a string of good luck?”

Keeping Charge Empty
PostSubject: Re: Keeping Charge    Keeping Charge EmptySat 19 Nov 2016, 10:40

Mocks turned to Eaton and gave a short-lived but encouraging grin.

"We've done well so far I ain't gonna deny that, but it ain't over until Robert accepts the information we bring forward. I don't see any immediate reason why he would be unhappy... But I wouldn't put it past him to find something. For example although we were successful in meeting with The Padre and establishing a base line of trust, he may think we overstepped our grounds. The terms of the arrangement began on our terms and not his which he may have taken issue with. Hence I tried to not agree to anything outright without getting something in return, and also why I made it clear we were not the ones who call the shots."

He took a deep breath and slowed his pace as he looked up to gaze up Luna's brilliance. As he did so his brow furrowed.

"I'm probably just being paranoid...but I am going to be on guard until we get Rends and Zas back."

He smiled and quickened his pace after a few moments.

"Now that you mention it, I don't recall the last time things went so well for us..."

Eaton waved his hand as if to dismiss the Ragabash's concerns, "Ah come on- considerin' what happened when we first encountered those folks, I'm glad they even listened to what we had to say! And I wouldn't be too worried 'bout what Robert has to say. He shouldn't be mad at us that we discovered leeches are prowlin' around Galveston."

He then held up his finger, "And yeah, I couldn't think of a time this went so well, either. And I also ain't one to just chalk things up to luck- I think Gaia's got a reason for everthin' that happened."

He retained his smile, but Mock's could sense it wasn't entirely genuine, "Do ya think it's just a coincidence that shit started goin' right once ya stepped up to Alpha?"

Keeping Charge Empty

Mocks chuckled

"As much as I would like to take sole credit for our recent successes...I do believe that our successes are owed to our recent failures. We set out from Robert's with camp on our best behavior knowing that we had to succeed for the sake of Rends and Zas. We were on guard and covering our asses to make sure we not only accomplished what Robert wanted us to, but so we would exceed his any and every expectation. I believe that you, Zoe, and I would have found the same measure of success even if you had been Alpha, or even if Zoe had."

He paused.

"We shall have to wait and see if Gaia's reason for me being Alpha was only to appease Robert while Rends and Zas were punished, or if she has a greater purpose for me in this role. I plan on challenging Rends once he has regained the wolf to prove to the rest of our society that I am fit in this role... I just want it to be done right you know? I want everyone to see I am alpha fairly, by rite of challenge. Not because I was Beta, not because I'm Shadowlord and manipulated everyone, not because I'm Ragabash and tricked everyone...but because I earned it."

Eaton's smile seemed to waver into a grimace ever so slightly before he said, "Do ya really think that a challenge is necessary? 'Cause I think you got it backwards. He'd need to challenge you. Most Garou would see that you became Alpha not because Rends was merely indisposed, but because he forfeit the position."

With a grunt, he added, "Why do you think ya haven't proven yerself after the past few days? When those bat-freaks were attackin' the barn, ya kept your head and stuck to the shadows. Wantin' to misdirect the riders instead of tearin' 'em to shreds was your idea. And ya even had the humility to apologize for what we did to that priest. Just runnin' in and punchin' wasn't the answer in any of these situations."

"If you were gonna ask me, I say don't challege him for Alpha, because he ain't Alpha. Not any more. He should be the one challengin' you if he wants it back- and even that would only prove that the way he solves his problems is with his claws."

Keeping Charge Empty
PostSubject: Re: Keeping Charge    Keeping Charge EmptySun 27 Nov 2016, 22:38

Mocks raised an eyebrow as Eaton spoke.

"The agreement with Rends was I would take charge until he could lead again. It was only meant to be temporarily. If I wish to remain Alpha which...I won't lie I enjoyed being Alpha... A challenge is necessary."

He nodded.

"Yes. I believe here past few days have proven that I have the ability to lead...but having the ability to lead and having the right to lead are to different things. As far as I am concerned Rends is still my Alpha. Up until recently Rends never let us down...we always got the victory. Are you going to hang him for one mistake, or have you been wanting a change in leadership for quite some time?"

Mocks frowned.

"I gave my word to Vin I would challenge Rends, and Gaia willing I will come out successful."

Eaton laughed, "If you are gonna challege him, you might as well just give it back- all he's gonna do is challenge you to a duel where he can just hand ya yer ass. Thought if he was the one coming before you, I'd imagine you'd agree to test that was more in yer favor."

Eaton let out a huff before he said, "This ain't just one mistake- it's a pattern of mindless aggression that he's made no attempt to correct. After our shit show in Austin, I brought up that even though we're supposed to be the good guys, we're wanted men while the Wyrm's pawns are elected into office. I thought then he mighta been listenin' to me that just killin' men you don't like ain't how to win, and that our enemy was showin' more restraint that we were. The other night proved me wrong and that he still tries to apply the only solution he knows."

He took in a breath, "And that ain't mean I think he's a bad Alpha or I don't like him- he just ain't the leader we need right now."

Keeping Charge Empty
PostSubject: Re: Keeping Charge    Keeping Charge EmptyMon 28 Nov 2016, 22:37

Mocks was silent for a few beats before speaking.

"If Rends chooses a duel for the challenge he has the advantage that is true...but that is his right as Alpha. That is how things are done. You know this. You take Alpha by beating the Alpha at their best. That is what must be done to prove to Gaia, her children, and all the spirits know you are worthy of the honor and weight of Alpha."

"If you feel there has been a pattern of mindless aggression... I am also to blame. As Ragabash and Beta I should have put a stop to it, rather than just attributing it to his Get heritage and allowing him to run his course. Besides... That shit show in Austin... That was my fault. I was the one who frenzied during our stealth mission. That is my shame and failure to bear... Not his."

He paused again while absentmindedly reaching for his flask that he cast aside into the sea.

"If Rends wins the challenge... I'll be sure to hold him accountable. More than I ever have before to ensure that what happened in Galveston doesn't happen again."

Mocks gave a hopeful smile to Eaton.

"Have faith in Rends. When I last spoke to Rends he was shaken to the core. He won't be the same Rends when we see him again. Have faith this lesson tempered his pride, rage, and haste."

His smile faded.

"If you don't like the results of my challenge to him... Then you do it. You challenge him. Or if you have so little faith in me...challenge me now and then keep Alpha from him."
