Future Shadow steps Empty
PostSubject: Future Shadow steps   Future Shadow steps EmptyThu 21 Jan 2016, 17:44

The Prodigal's pack philodox was mulling over his own thoughts as much had taken place since returning to the caern. The deposing and summary execution of the former sept leader, the Necromantis, the king being freed from the bonds of Harano, trip to meet Grandfather thunder...it was a lot to say the least. Yet, for all that occurred already the pack stood to face another great task.

Zas gazed off in the distance towards the Silver Fang house. The Silver Fangs here are in need of much. Their low numbers are not helping matters, but to have a young, mostly untested theurge...the future looks fairly bleak. Now we are entrusted with her care and education? Now as we prepare to face some of our most dangerous foes...

The Silent Strider looked skyward and sent a prayer to Luna and Gaia both for their blessings and any amount of luck they could throw in. Having the death of the girl on his watch was not something Zas was wanting to accept but he had to admit was an all too real possibility.

As he returned his stare from the night sky, he observed the pack Ragabash standing off to his right in total silence. His only movement was the occasional swishing of his flask as he too peered out into the dark looking westward.

The Apache strode to join his blood brothers side and spoke, "It's typically me who broods and dwells on internal thoughts. Why do you join me tonight?"

Kefka continues looking West as he shrugs.

"Just that time of the month I guess."

He smirks before taking another swig and turning to face his brother.

"Why are you brooding is the better question. We put the Silverfangs back in charge. That is what you wanted is it not? We fulfilled our promise even though that staff didn't do us a lick of good. We have upheld the litany, disposed of a traitor to Gaia, we know where the witches our and leave at dawn to hunt them down. You should be celebrating."

Zas gives a curt smile as he replies, "Yes, the Silver Fang King is awakened and in power once more. This is good, but he is not in the best shape-physically nor politically, a point he's very aware of, thus he consults us. He trusts us. We are on good terms-I worry how quickly that may change. We've been strangely fortunate lately. I am concerned that our luck may run out before the Silver Fang theurge is ready."

His smile wanes slightly as he adds, "The sun staff may still be needed and now at least we know it exists."

As Mocks continued, the philodox smile fades as he says, "We did our duty-true enough, but at the expense of a garou's life. I know the cursed one needed to pay for his heinous crimes and that he received justice, but I do wish justice could have been found without further death."

Zas grows deathly quiet, "I also don't relish the possibility that in days ahead I may be asked to perform that rite again. Killing servants of the wyrm...it's natural, what we're made for. Killing our brothers and sisters...I--"

Zas shakes his head, "We have our targets, they have their own crimes to pay for."

The long haired Apache turns to face Kefka and asks, "Speaking of which, how do you feel about your totem spirit's task to rid the tribe of masks?"

Mocks watched Zas as he spoke and turned away to look again out West after Zas finished. After a few moments he sits on the ground and pats it next to him for Zas to sit.

"Don't you start you believin' in luck Zas. We live or die by our skills, and Gaia's will. If you begin to focus on luck being the reason we have been successful our skills will dull. Little Miss Theurge will have to prove herself, and she will be put in danger. That is what is demanded of all us Garou. We will help her develop the skills necessary to stay alive and stay fighting."

Mocks take out his Apache and begins polishing it.

"I don't know if we are going to need that staff again. If the Necromantis is to be trusted Bat will return to Gaia of his own volition to be purified if we can find a child of Bat."

Mocks looks at Zas with a frown and fierce eyes.

"Nightclaw deserved to die. He was no mask, but he was lost. He broke the litany and turned his back to Gaia. He had many chances to come clean and did not take them. He sat on the usurped throne powerless. He manipulated our brothers and sisters, he let the Wyrm fester and grow. He knew the choices he was making, and he knew the consequences. Why does it bother you so much we killed him? You almost killed one of the Steel Reavers when we fled the Get, and that brother was not a litany breaker. Why is NightClaw more important than him? You are the Philadox. You have to be a rooted oak, not a leaf on the wind."

Mocks turns away from his brother and lies back to gaze at the stars in the moonless sky.

"Ridding my tribe of Masks is nothing new. It is the mission Drowns His Foes set me on. Grandfather Thunder has simply validated it...and for that I am grateful. I do whatever it takes to rid the Masks, and restore by tribe to glory."

Zas grimaced, "That's exactly why it bothers me-because I nearly killed one who had done no wrong! I have no love for any who blatantly and repeatedly violate our laws like him. I didn't even like the man. Yet, I do regret taking a Garou life...and shudder to think how these same claws could take the lives of the innocent as easily as the guilty."

He takes a breath, "Did he deserve death-yes. Absolutely. I do not question the rendered judgement, but I do wish his crime didn't necessitate his execution. I do not thirst for blood, but when it must be spilled I will spill it. It's just not something I'm eager to do...at least not anymore. Philodox are judges-peacekeepers, not Ahroun, I understand this more now than I once did, and I am grateful. In my more foolish days I would have sought to wield the terrible powers of my auspice for the wrong reasons and with crimson colored eyes, but now I see my role for what it's truly meant to be."

He glances to the Shadowlord, "And what of your mysterious mentor? What reason can you find that he is unknown by all the Shadowlords here?"

Mocks sits up and holds his left hand high as it shifts into the claws of a Crinos.

"These claws Gaia gave us do reap destruction. Wyrm, Weaver, Wyld, they all fall at our feet. We are no different and fall the same. There is a reason for that. We have to cleanse our own. When a Garou turns on Gaia it is up to us to deliver justice. That is why your Auspice exists is it not?"

Mocks pauses as his claw reverts back to his hand and he grabs for his flask.

"Unfortunately we fight each other and kill each other for more than justice though. When ideals clash. Robert Swiftdeath may be righteous in his crusade to destroy the Wyrm out West. We do not know for certain if he is wrong, but we disagree and actively worked to slow him down when we rescued Illyanna from his clutches. Here we were alone in our crusade to redeem Bat. Nightclaw almost branded us as traitors and Masks...and he would be right too. We are taking a big risk by letting the Necromantis roam free. Be honest. If you were not of our pack...and heard what our pack has done...would you believe us to be in the right, or would you accuse of breaking the litany and not destroying the Wyrm?"

Mocks looks at Zas with sadness in his eyes.

"You must have the hardest role of all. Being the eyes, mouth, and hands of Gaia. You watch us. You give judgment. You deliver it."

Mocks lays back down and closes his eyes.

"As for Drowns His Foes...No news is good news I suppose. He told me he is from the old country...that may explain why they don't know him. He is a wild card. He may be able to be trusted, or he may not be. Only time will tell."

At the Ragabash's initial question Zas nodded in reply. "It's a large part of my purpose...but it is not all. Guiding our kind through times of peace and teaching others how to temper their rage with wisdom doesn't always require me to call down thunder and lightning."

At his second query, Zas squints his eyes as he considers for a moment before making his reply. "I think in that instance, I personally would trust in the merit of the deeds rather than the actions themselves. Our pack has a history of doing the unexpected, which tends to profit Gaia greatly in the end, but until the full picture is revealed our acts often shed a sour light. There are some philodox who would not see it that way though as we saw in Warbreath."

As his friend grows somber Zas shakes his head, "The role is simple. The task is simple. It's living with yourself afterwards that's tricky. I think honestly you have the most challenging duty."

The Silent Strider considers his next words and then adds, "You dismiss good fortune quickly. Gaia's will for what happens can only affect so much. Our skills and abilities do help us, but more often than you give credit to it, I feel we are able to walk away victoriously because of a little luck.

It was Gaia's will we find Penelope. It was our skills that allowed us to subdue her and bring her alongside us and her skills if she manages to succeed in absolving herself of her tribes sins. Yet i count it luck if she is able to also gain Lions patronage and return to us in this lifetime."

Zas gives a sigh, "Who knows, maybe with a little...okay a lot of luck, we may even be able to prevent the Apocalypse."

He turns to face Kefka, "You think it's going to be your skills that allow you to find all the masks?"

"I will not find the masks by my skills alone. That is why Grandfather Thunder tasked you all to assist me. We will investigate, question, and seek the truth out West same as we did here with Nightclaw."

Mocks turned his head to look at Zas.

"You think it luck that our investigation of Nightclaw bore fruit?"

He turned back to the stars.

"If Penelope returns to us and redeems the BlackSpirals that just proves how strong she is. It would do her a great dishonor to say she got lucky. "

Zas gives a nod as he says, "It was Gaia's will the truth be brought to light. It was due to our investigation that we learned the facts. It was luck that we were able to do all of this in such a short time period while also dealing with the Weeping moon and the Necromantis and the city of Houston."

He considers the Shadowlords words for a moment before saying, "Simply her returning at all would signify her might, but her also achieving her other goals...that to me means that she would have gained Gaia's favor and blessing. Call me superstitious if you will, but I put stock in luck and good fortune. It gives me hope for the future."

Zas smiles, "I must admit that meeting Grandfather Thunder and learning your own quest was blessed was both exciting and inspiring."

"Of course I call you superstitious. That is on account of you being injun."

Mocks laughed.

"Now I don't want you gettin' the wrong idea. I do think there is some luck in the world. Luck is tearing away the biggest hunk of meat from a deer. Luck is the bartender forgetting to charge you for your drinks. Luck was getting in bed with Harriet before and then finding out she was Red Oath's sister."

Mocks turned to wink at Zas when bringing up Harriet.

"Yeah. Meeting Grandfather Thunder was frightful, but enlightening."

He sighed.

"I'm a Ragabash Zas. We ain't used to bein' right, and we sure ain't used to bein' heroes."

Mocks sat up and ran a hand through his hair.

"I carry the weight of my tribe in my shoulders. The future of my people falls on me finding these Masks out West. I can't afford to fail."

Zas looks at Kefka for a long moment before replying. "I could tell you a myth of my people but to be honest I am not good at telling stories and you probably wouldn't understand it, but I think you could still find something I experienced personally, helpful.

He clears his throat before beginning, "When I was little I met one of the Jajadeh-you would call them a devil dancer. The devil dancers were an odd sort-they were clowns, mockers of tradition. They often did things very differently to teach and lead my people to order. If we did not listen to their jokes or take heed of their strange ways and learn from them, we suffered as they had been gifted by Thunder. Eventually, though my people are stubborn, we learned to follow the wisdom of the devil dancers and saw the truth in their mocking ways.

Sometimes they did or said things that were scary, but it was done to warn us. To prepare us for the worst. For catastrophe may lie around the next bend. They showed us and reminded us in their crazy ways that chaotic things can happen anywhere along the road of life.

The one I met told me this: "When a vision comes from Thunder in the west, it comes with terror like a thunder storm; but when the storm of vision has passed, the world is greener and happier; for wherever the truth of vision comes upon the world, it is like a rain. The world, you see, is happier after the terror of the storm."

Zas looks at his packmate and says, "I say all this to tell you-your own tribes mightiest spirit and your pack are on your side. Your journey is certainly going to be chaotic but in your own Ragabash way you will be able to lead your tribe back to the right path as the devil dancers of my people did. You may not be used to being right, but when you deliver the truth, like a cleansing rain-all will be made right again."
