Zas having noted Silke beginning to show the signs of getting tired and Rends and Eaton forming grimaces with each continued step suggested breaking out for camp. Hearing no real objections, he sought out a good spot off the beaten path near a clearing between some hickory and oak trees. Looking around the camp, Zas noted that Mocks was busy gathering firewood and getting the fire ready as Eaton was busy trying to figure out what additional uses his horn could serve.

Off to herself, Zas approached Zoe and said, "Mind if I bother you for a little while? I could use some help finding game, and there's a few things I wanted to talk with you about."

As he begins heading off into the woods he says, "Do you recall meeting the Red Talon Shrike?"

Zoe follows Zas out on the hunt and nods.

"Yes, Shrike and I spoke - more or less - at length when we first met.  Talking with him was interesting to say the least.  Why do you ask?"

Zas sighs, "The Red Talons for all their faults have a way of making things seem and sound simple. I kinda wish Shrike was here. He seemed to be the talon most willing to engage us."

He turns to look at Zoe as he says, "Is there anything he told you that could be helpful for our upcoming days? Reason I ask is-you saw first hand the lengths Tames the Weaver was willing to go to. You saw what he had done to Gaian spirits. But worst of all, you saw that there are other times, other realms that are in just as much peril as ours...how are we as Gaia's fang supposed to stop, let alone destroy the wyrm when there's things and places like this where the things we kill simply live anew? I certainly don't know. It's too much to put my mind around-but I was hoping maybe there was something you'd learned or heard that could help me to find a way to see clearly. I'm not asking for a gift or anything but simply words of wisdom."

Zoe thinks for a few moments.

"I don't recall anything in particular that Shrike said that would be relevant. As I said, he didn't say much and what he did say was kind of hard to comprehend."

"I wouldn't worry too much about the other timelines. With the despair engine destroyed and the time spirits trapped, I don't believe anyone can travel between the time lines any longer, which basically makes them non-existent as far as I'm concerned. And remember, it was the paradox spirit who resurrected Tames the Weaver. It wasn't the new reality that brought him life. And the third Tames the Weaver we met was simply another possible reality, not a reincarnation of the one we destroyed."

She stops her hunt and turns to face the Philodox. "We must learn as much as we can about these new fetishes, but we cannot dwell in the past or in alternate realities. You must make your judgments based on this timeline and this reality."

Zas looked at Zoe and smiles as he says, "Yes, that is good advice. I suppose discerning how much I should allow what I have experienced in the other places to affect my decisions is something I alone will have to work out. And learning all we can is just in general a smart move. Thank you Zoe."

The Philodox then slowly shifts into his lupus form and begins the hunt waiting only to watch as Zoe does likewise. The pair then scours the wooded area for prey managing to bag a pair of squirrels a raccoon and a gopher. Satisfied that they have enough to last for a meal or two, Zas winds his way back to camp where he delivers some of the food to the pack who begin to clean it and prepare it for Dinner.

As they do this Zas reverts to his human form and turns to look at Zoe, "We did pretty good. You up for a different kind of hunt? I'm looking to try and meet with a wolf spirit."

Zoe shrugs and takes our her pocket watch to aid them in stepping sideways.

"Sure! I haven't summoned anything in the past few days, well, aside from your tribe totem. I'd love to hear more about what all Owl was talking about in there from you later. I have to admit I didn't recognize some of the characters it was referencing."

The two step sideways into an untouched-by-man Umbra, lacking any signs of crashed ships or amalgum spirits. Zoe releases a sigh of relief, feeling comforted by the few nature spirits she could see. She led Zas to a clearing and stopped with a smile.

"You never want to leave your back against a wall when summoning a new spirit. You can never be sure how - or if - they will respond. Better to see them coming than to be ambushed by a spirit who would rather not have been summoned."

She begins her summons as Zas stands by and keeps watch. When finished, she sighs and smiles.

"And now, we wait!"

The response to the Hears-the-Song's spirit summons was swift. Lyrical howls echoed over the sleepy hills, and through a nearby thicket of shuddering cypress and holly a long-limbed spirit beast stalked. Its coat swirled with shifting color, preternaturally changing to match the spirit growth around it even as the plants seemed to move to cover the creature's passing with their branches. The creature sang to them in the tongue of spirits, its words bemused but not particularly kind, sounding like the tribal chants of men and women calling in near-unison.

"Greetings. What would you ask of me, Garou of the Nation?"

Zas having shifted once more into his lupus form approached the wolf spirit and with his ears pulled tightly against his head in deference to the spirit he says with a howl of introduction, "Snowy Owl, friend to the pure seeks your knowledge."

Zas then looks up at the spirit and says in spirit speech, "I wish to learn how to make my pack stronger. I wish to learn how to give them the grim resolve they will need to accomplish what Gaia sets before them."

Zas then bows his head as he continues, "I would also seek your knowledge in how to divine strength from my purpose and calling as a philodox."

Zas then backs away and says with a low yipping bark, "I offer any chiminage you desire for these gifts."

The spirit finally left the cover of the brush and approached Zas B'ul. It had the shape of a wolf, but two black horns curved out from behind its ears, and its back feet were cloven hooves. The fur of the wolf-beast spun and danced in patterns of dun green and olive.

"This can be done, but to trust one of the Apache is difficult. Long have I watched and aided the Tonkawa, seen them die to the lances and arrows of the invaders. Now you stand before me, smelling as the enemy..."

The pattern of the spirit changed into banded jagged slashes of indigo and red.

"Yet you claim that any payment will be given. Perhaps you are willing to end the senseless violence and death between peoples. Lift not your hand or tooth against the Tonkawa, my children, and you will know what you wish to learn."

Zas stares back at the spirit wolf and without pause says, "I am called to serve Gaia as a peacemaker. I seek to reunite the bloodied tribes of the garou."

He nicks his hand on his tomahawk and rubs blood on the blade as he then hurls it into the umbral dirt before the spirits feet as he says, "I have no quarrel with your children-my fight is with the Wyrm and his servants. I do not wish for further needless violence against the Tonkawa. That said, should I find servants of Grandfather Serpent among the Tonkawa-they will receive no mercy for they, having sinned against Gaia, are not pure. Let this act serve as proclamation that there will be no innocent Tonkawan blood spilled before me by my hand nor any Apache who travel at my side."

Zas then adds, "My word is good, many spirits can attest to this. Should you find my oath to be broken-I ask that you take my life as it is then forfeit and can no longer serve as one of Gaia's fangs."
