Fading Light and the White Owl Empty
PostSubject: Fading Light and the White Owl   Fading Light and the White Owl EmptyFri 06 Mar 2015, 16:29

As the pack made their way through the penumbral swamp, Zas B'ul approached Kefka, wary of the unfamiliar presence lurking behind his packmate's eyes. The Shadow Lord scarcely glanced toward the Philodox. "I did that old mokole a favor, he will be grateful in time." Fading Light's dry tone was unmistakeable.

"There is something to be said for making friends," the Philadox said pointedly.

Fading Light looked Zas Bul up and down, eying him grimly. "If you think I had friends you are mistaken. I had allies within Gaia's chosen. Nothing more. The other shifting breeds are weak. If that Mokole had strength or honor he would have died in vengeance of his fallen kin. He will now die knowing that Gaia did not betray his kind. I did that tortured wretch a service."

Zas stayed still and silent his pointed eyes ever wary of the stranger now residing in his packmate's body. "Death does not mean weakness. Your lineage has greatly improved since your death."

Fading Light gave Zas a questioning look. "The dragons lost the war. Losing is weakness. Will you stand here and tell me that is not the way of our kind? Look at your Alpha. Look at your own acts carnage. Our ways have not changed."

Zas' own words were quick, hastened by his growing anger. "Your own descendant has told me that you learn more from losing than winning. That is a strength. Knowledge is power."

Fading Light barked out a laugh. "And I gave this dragon knowledge did I not? I empowered him. His renewed rage may give him another few years, perhaps decades, though his failing memory will not last him that long."

Zas took a breath to keep his anger from rising, "Regardless of what your initial intentions were, I sincerely doubt that the man we spoke with will ever find the news you gave to be worthy of gratitude however truthful it may have been. As to your belief that our ways haven't changed-you're partially correct. Our purpose remains the same, but what has changed since your time has been the development of something called tactics and tact. How does bringing up old grudges thereby creating more difficulties in the brokerage of a truce serve to aid our calling to end the wyrm? If you truly feel that he is of a weaker race and acknowledge that his mind is off what honor is there to starting a fight?"

The Silent Strider paused for a moment weighing his words before adding, "It would seem that you were lacking much in your time. I am pleased that Gaia has seen fit to improve upon what once was. I know Kefka would have been smart enough to make the right choice with his words. Maybe you could learn from your progeny rather than he from you, Fading Light."

Fading Light smiles, clearly pleased at the rise he is drawing out of the philadox.

"There is not much honor in starting a fight with someone weaker. I concede this is true. There is however great honor in telling the truth, which is precisely what I did. The Mokele reacted violently upon hearing the truth. There is honor in dying in battle, in avenging your fallen comrades. If he were not to die in battle against an enemy old, his other options are enemies new, or to die alone without vengeance...without honor. You all took that honor from him today by preventing his attack."

Fading Light narrowed his eyes at Zas.

"I know the actions and the heart of my progeny more than you do Snowy Owl. We stand behind him, fight with him. When he falls...so do we all." He takes a breath. "Where are your ancestors Silent Strider? Can they say the same about you? Do you know their names? Based on your lack of manners for your Elders I would assume not."

Zas gazes upon the ancestor possessing Kefka and listens as he explains his actions. Zas gazes at him as he says, "You are so blinded by rage you have lost sight of the true enemy. Think of how much more useful that Mokole may have been, how much more honor he could have gained by fighting at our side against the wyrm that thrives in the city-you would rather he die fighting a pointless battle in some nameless swamp just to satisfy an age old bloodfeud. You attempted to take away his ultimate chance at gaining honor."

Zas glares into the eyes of his packmate as the ancestor makes his last comments and says with clenched fists, "My elders have no need to service their own vanity, unlike you. They are likely trying to find a means of repairing the damage you once caused when you plagued the face of Gaia. If they were around I'm certain they would be ashamed of you calling yourself a Garou."

Zas then calms himself after a moment and says, "I will not continue to feed your pride by speaking with you as if your words bore honor. Leave now or I will take action."

Faded Light Lets out another laugh. "I am the one blinded by rage, yet you are the one threatening action and refusing to listen. You must be a very popular Philadox."

He clears his throat as he steps closer to Zas with fierce intensity. "You will take no action Snowy Owl. You are smarter than that. You know there is as much truth in my words as there is in yours, there would be no rightful quarrel to justify action. We eradicated the other shifting breeds because they were unnecessary and in the way. We didn't need them then, you don't need them now. You are Garou. All you need your pack supplies. All else be damned."

He takes a step back smiling. "I joined with my brother's in shadows and the other tribes in the War of Rage for a greater purpose, for Gaia. Your tribe was silent and absent. They knew not of Garou matters, so I care not what they call me. Seeing you with so much rage though...I am glad that you have taken a new direction from your ancestors as well."

With a fading laugh Kefka's body falls to the ground. After a few seconds Kefka picks himself up off the ground and dusts himself off slowly, all the while keeping an eye on his packmate.

Zas growls as Fading Light draws close and says with a finger pointed out to the distance in a raised voice, "Don't you ever claim we are alike again. I am not so prideful as to believe I know better than Gaia what is needed. My pack is made strong by knowing our limits-not by letting bravado and dishonorable acts proclaim our worth. I will not allow you to bring harm to our cause. I gave you a command, now go!"

As Kefka picks himself up from the ground, Zas begins to calm down and says, "If you ever feel the urge to summon that particular ancestor again-resist it."

Kefka takes off his hat to run a hand through his hair and takes a drink from his flask before responding to Zas Bul.

"Who are you to tell me what to do with my ancestors? They are an extension of myself much like any other gift or weapon. No one dictates how you use your tools...so leave me to mine."

He takes another drink and wipes his mouth off.

"What action were you going to take?"

Zas looks intently at his packmate and says, "You could hear all that was said, yet you question me?"

He pauses as he says, "Surely you can see why I took the stance I did. Your ancestor was wrong to speak as he did. When it comes to matters regarding the destruction of the Wyrm, the litany is clear. That is why I ask you not to use him. His words and mind are not focused on Gaia."

Zas then looks at Kefka and says, "I was going to do what was needed. Fading Light was not needed."

Kefka stares angrily at the Philadox and spits at his feet.

"I'm going to ignore what you jes said, because I like you. You insult my ancestor again and I will fight you in their place. You don't get to call them Wyrm jes' cause you disagree with them. Aside from Drowns His Foes my ancestors are my only link to my tribe. I ain't lettin' you take from me."

Zas steps back as he says, "I have not claimed Fading Light was of the wyrm. However, in his lust to stir up an old vendetta he has lost sight of how he could better serve Gaia-in a way he is similar to Hanging Maw. He knew that his words would likely rouse the Mokole to anger and therein placed the pack in potential danger by not speaking with any form of tact. In that regard-he was not needed as we were already in a tense situation and he knowingly made it worse."

Zas then steps forwards again as he says, "To be certain-Fading Light and I have our differences, but I will not fight you for things beyond your control. His words and actions were his own. I treat them as such."

Kefka looks at the ground and takes a deep breath.

"His actions and words were his own...but I gave him control and I understand why he did what we did."

He locks eyes with Zas as he continues.

"In his time the Mokole were an enemy of his and the other Garou. He did what he had to do for his own glory yes, but also for the glory of all Garou, and Gaia herself. The Mokole had already stated he wasn't sure why he should help us because of our ancestors. In the back of his mind we were the enemy. Had we allied with him he could have stabbed us in the back. Thanks to Fading Light we entered no agreement with him, only exchanged information. We are not indebted to him, nor he to us. We did not need him to find the Stranglehold, we had the River Spirit. I will trust spirits over enemies old, or new any day."

Kefka sighed.

"Remember how we worked with Ford once, and vowed to never work with an enemy again. If we aren't going to work with our enemies how can you expect Fading Light to do the same?"

Kefka then glares at Zas Bul. "If Fading Light is my Hanging Maw by destroying him, you are giving me every right to destroy Hanging Maw."

Zas looks at Kefka with concern as he says, "Do you say that He like Garou of old killed all the other shape changers in Gaia's name? Do you think that as Gaia's protectors we were and are called to destroy all the others she had created simply because they were weaker than us?"

Zas shakes his head, "I expect Fading Light to think like a Garou of his station. When we are in unfamiliar terrain, negotiating a truce with a person of unknown power and knowledge, who likely has us outnumbered and is well versed in both the environment and terrain in an isolated location....rousing him to fury and making the pack targets of the rage is foolish to say the least. Not wanting to work with an enemy is one thing, but his methods leave much to be desired."

Zas pauses for a moment at Kefka's last words and says cooly, "I can't destroy your ancestor, even if I wanted to. I don't know how and have no reason to. I was just going to make him relinquish his control over you if he refused to leave voluntarily, that's all. I didn't want him to get the pack in another bad situation from a lack of proper focus."

Kefka nursed some more drink from his flask as Zas talked.

"I ain't Gaia. Perhaps she did call Garou to do other things in the past. Even though the actions taken are wrong in our eyes...I think the Garou of the past did it for Gaia. I can't say if that is what Gaia asked for, or wanted...but I do believe they were thinking of her during the War of Rage."

Kefka takes a breath and stares at the moon.

"His methods may leave much to be desired, but so do all of ours on occasion. Besides there was a chance the Mokole wouldn't react in anger, a small one sure...but it could've happened."

He returns his gaze to Zas.

"And how were you going to make him relinquish control Zas? Knock me out? How is beating up a packmate avoiding a bad situation? You were the one full of anger and making threats not Fading Light. Perhaps you should worry about your own focus and leave my ancestors to me."

With that Kefka turns around and picks up his pace to join the rest of the pack.

Zas watches as Kefka rushes to catch the others as he says, "I was roused to anger by the foolish choices made by a Garou who should have known better and who then further refused to admit his wrongdoing. I also fail to see in what world callously telling someone you were responsible for the murder of their family, being received by anything other than flying into a rage."

Zas then says to Kefka matter of factly, "I did not make a threat to him. I gave your ancestor a choice-leave willingly or by my hands. I will leave your ancestors to you-but I won't allow them to put the pack in needless danger. As to how he would have been made to leave-you would not have been harmed."

Zas then looks out in the penumbral distance and says more to himself, "I will pray that Gaia allows you to see the merit behind my deeds this night."
