A talk for the Bird Empty
PostSubject: A talk for the Bird   A talk for the Bird EmptyThu 29 Jan 2015, 19:01

Kefka reloaded his six shooter after hiding the Regulator bodies. He took the rear as Zoe and the others took the horses, gun powder, and few weapons that the Regulator's were carrying. He followed leisurely along holstering his pistol and pulling his shotgun to clean it and make sure it would be ready in case there were more regulators in the woods. He saw Ebony who was next to Zas turn around and look at him. Kefka looks at her for a brief moment and gives a half hearted grin before motioning her to come talk. She shrugged nonchalantly and slowed her pace for Kefka to catch up.

"Ebony I got a question for ya. I ain't tryin' to be rude or nothing now...I mean you have helped us out on plenty of occasions, and I appreciate that. But, uh...What are you doin' here? Why are you travelin' with us and not other Garou, or other Corax?"

Ebony squinted at Mocks. The gangly girl was wearing a wide brimmed black hat that shielded her weak reddish eyes from the sun and kept her from burning. "I'm here because I want to be here. I got jittery sitting around in old Bean's court, and my kind aren't the sort of birds that travel in flocks. I figured when you breezed into town, things got interesting in Vinegaroon, so I decided to follow along."

The pair walked along the road quietly for a few moments, the lead horse's clop-clop rhythm speeding up to a clatter as Zoe spurred it ahead. Ebony let out a soft snort of laughter.

"You want to know something funny? I thought there was a good chance some or, hell, all of you were gonna end up shot in some gulch by that crazy-eyed son of a bitch Ford and his band of merry freaks. Somebody would have had to give account of what happened. That little eastward picnic didn't turn out like I expected, but that is why I came along."

Kefka laughed.

"Yeah...our dealings with Ford went quite well considering he could have killed us all. I bet that wasn't the last time that you thought we were gonna get done in. That almost happens on a weekly basis."

He chuckles and takes a drink from his flask.

"What do you think happened to the ol' Judge? After we talked to him last he kind of disappeared and we ain't heard from him."

"More than likely, Bean is still out in District 6, trying to stay out of the way of more powerful folk. He always wanted to avoid most of his own kind while at the same time lording over the locals... I guess he was born to be a backwater judge."

"I have to tell you though, and maybe I don't get it because I am not one of you, but... you all seem to kill folks soon as meet 'em. This last bunch-" She waved back vaguely in the direction of the dry creek behind them. "We killed or assassinated this group of men, over what? A story and some gunpowder? What if that Regulator Yates was a liar?" The girl shot Kefka a bloodshot glance, long pale fingers playing with the hem of her long coat.

Kefka slightly frowned as Ebony brought up the recent slaughter. He looked forward and shrugged his shoulders, taking a deep breath before he spoke.

"Now to be fair we had met the Regulators and Yates before. We also dealt with them Moderators whom we just killed. There is a blood feud between the 2 groups and upon first meetin' we decided to stay out of it. Figured it would sort itself ya know? Well we arrive in St. Augustine and jes fer talkin' to the Regulators dem Moderators start following us all around town, watching our every move."

He pauses and casts a glance in Ebony's direction.

"As you know for our kind that spells trouble. Anyway we ended up leaving town through the Umbra to lose their trail but there was some logic mage who may have been working with them. That was the last we saw of either group until after Zavala, and you remember what a mess that was. Well the Regulators are the ones who went in as we were leavin' and helped clean up our mess. That means we owed them one. This was it."

He shakes his head and pulls out his flask, after taking a swig he offers it to Ebony.

"That's the danger of not making choices. The choice still gets made...jes by someone else."

"I was there, Kefka. I remember Zavala, and those Regulators helping on the way out. They might have covered for us, and maybe we did owe them." The albino eyed Kefka for a moment before taking the offered flask and take a few quick gulps. She handed it back and wiped her mouth on the sleeve of her overcoat.

"Thanks. I reckon that is sort of my point- you owe someone a favor so you commit some killings on their behalf? I'm not afraid to get my claws wet if it comes to that, but sometimes I get the impression you Garou think life is worth less than a torn up redback."

Ebony jerked a thumb over her shoulder back down the road, towards the slaughter they had encountered.  "Think about it, Kefka. If'n the Regulators were caught in a crossfire set up by Moderator assassins, it was pretty goddamn lucky that neither of those two barrels were hit by a stray minnieball and cooked off. The wagon was shot to hell, almost all the people shot to death, but neither of the gunpowder kegs got hit? I don't think that Yates fellow was telling us the whole story."
