Celebrating With an Old Friend Empty
PostSubject: Celebrating With an Old Friend   Celebrating With an Old Friend EmptyFri 11 Jul 2014, 22:31

As Kefka entered the abandoned bar he took a deep breath. Much to his pleasure the scent of Skin Rippers, blood, and death weren't as potent in the bar. "They must not appreciate the finer things in life..." he muttered as he leapt over the bar, and knelt down to examine the quality of the booze. He grabbed an assortment of bottles and placed them on the bar along with a rather large glass. He opened each bottle and tasted them in turn before emptying their contents into a glass. Except for the last bottle. That one he emptied into his flask for later. He stood at the bar swirling his glass thinking of the fights newly ended. He was focusing on the presence that bombarded not just once, but twice. He smiled, downed his glass and then crushed it in his hand. Briefly switching to Glabro to regenerate. He laughed as he watched his hand heal itself; watching it push the broken pieces of glass out of his body.

"That power felt great. Bet I could have even given Rends a run for his money for a couple of rounds. I hadn't  felt that since my first shift."

A familiar presence snuck up behind him. It was Thalia the most common of his ancestors.

"Yes, you were strong. However forgoing your keen intellect for strength is rarely a good move. In your blind rage you killed Karnes. The man who gave you your deputy badge. How is that for repayment?"

Kefka grimaced as he looked down at the ground trying to come up with a response. A warm motherly smile washed over him.

"I say this not to condemn you Kefka, just to make you aware of the consequences of working with Kharim. The rest of us were hoping to keep him hidden a little while longer, but apparently he is more cunning than we thought. So now you must be made aware. His strength will be of great use to you on the future, just remember to rely on your own strengths. Take notice of his he fights, learn from, learn his tactics, lose his rage, keep your wits."

Kefka was looked up staring out a window, mindlessly scratching his facial hair.
"If his strength is of use to me why did you try to hide him?"

"Because we felt his cons outweighed his usefulness. Kharim Bloodsoaked is not well liked among our kind. He did terrible things that can't be spoken of right now. I need you to trust me. If need be I will buy your trust. I know a friend who can help you out."

Kefka wordlessly moved back towards the bar and grabbed another bottle and opened it and took a swig.

"I hate secrets. Especially ones being kept from me by my ancestors. But on the other hand I like things. What are you offering me Thalia?" He asked with a grin.

"A spirit friend. His name is Barthos. He is a stormcrow who has helped me out numerous times. He can teach you some gifts that I believe you will find most useful. He can be a nuisance but say I sent you and her shouldn't be too much trouble."

Kefka ponders the thought for awhile.

"Barthos, eh?  That's a nice start... but I want something else. I want you to teach me the way of the blade. I want to know why they call you Witchblade."

"This can be arranged young one, but first talk to Barthos. I am proud of you Fostern. Keep up the good work and I may even tell you what made my blade so special."

With that she was gone. Kefka smiled to himself as he put a cork back on the bottle and set it down. He heard Zoe and Rends still talking so he climbed out a window and snuck down towards the center of the town, where everything first blew up. After some discreet inquiries, he learned that Colonel Karnes had not been buried in the cemetery, but had been hastily interred just outside its walls, since he had refused to convert to Catholicism. Kefka waited until late in the night and then he swiftly and silently exhumed the broken bloody corpse of Karnes. He pocketed the rest of the bullets for his new gun, and some cigarettes. He then slowly hefted the body onto his shoulders and snuck him inside the old Campos Santos graveyard. After an hour he had a respectable hole dug and he tossed the corpse in. Before covering Karnes with the earth he grabbed his flask and hat, and shoveled the dirt back into the hole and when completed poured the contents of the flask onto the grave. He sat down and had a smoke, basking in the light of Luna.

Celebrating With an Old Friend Empty
PostSubject: Re: Celebrating With an Old Friend   Celebrating With an Old Friend EmptyMon 14 Jul 2014, 22:17

Kefka smelled a change in the wind, the scent of a Garou, and the ragabash turned to see a tall Indian crouched precariously on a large tombstone. Heavily patched white-man's clothing was adorned with beads, shells, and a few lolling glass eyes. A bow rested easily on his shoulder, and a quiver of brightly-fletched arrows made from piebald horsehide hung at his hip.

The two stared at each other wordlessly for a moment, and then Kefka recognized the Indian: it was Bites-the-Snake, the native guide of the Throat-Tearers. The clear low voice of the newcomer broke the silence. "What are you doing among the dead, Shadow Lord? Does the breathing world hold no mystery for you?"

Kefka lets out a breath of smoke and watches it lazily rise towards the stars. He then turns and smiles at the Throat-Tearer.

"I would argue the breathing world has too many mysteries."

He laughs.

"I merely came here to bury a friend, pay my respects and enjoy the silence. After a long battle don't you like to just sit and be at peace? What spurred your visit to the dead?"

Kefka looks at the Indian with idle curiosity as he draws on the cigarette dangling from his lips.

At first, the Indian said nothing, but stood and drew closer to Kefka, making a sniffing, snuffling noise in the gloom. Then a sharp grin split the darkness. "My tribe, the Tonkawa, have a custom of eating men's flesh. This thing is forbidden among the Pure and the Garou Nation alike." Before the Ragabash could protest, Bites-the-Snake shook his head gravely, his smile fading. "I know this is not your transgression, but under the traveling moons I have gotten quite good at scenting... rancid meat." Eyes like burning tar fixed on Kefka, and the Prodigal could see the other werewolf's fists clenched tightly, his white knuckles covered by even whiter scars.

Kefka narrows his eyes at the Indian drew closer to him, watching intently for any funny business.

"Now I ain't no philadox. It ain't my place to judge you, but as a Garou it is my job to uphold the litany to protect the veil. I do apologize if'n me buryin' Carnes here stirred your hunger... but he's in the ground now. That is where he needs to stay."

Bites-the-Snake stopped and laughed, and to Kefka his guffaws seemed overly loud in the quiet graveyard. Even as he laughed, the Garou's eyes were locked on the Ragabash. "You are funny, new moon. I am Philodox, and I walk beneath the half moon always. When I spoke of old green meat, I was not speaking of the fallen humans. The foulness I smell is you, Mocks-the-Night."

The wind rustled through the long grass that sprouted around the graves. After a moment, Bites-the-Snake continued, his words calm, measured.

"I have grown adept at scenting corruption in the bellies of my would-be allies and tribesmen. The unclean reek of Grandfather Serpent lies upon you."

The uneasiness does not leave Kefka's face. If Bites the Snake is paying close attention he will notice Kefka's mood in fact darken. He

"Ah. My corruption. You are not the first to come after me for it, and honestly I think Bloodswallow is scarier than you. There was a time a bane corrupted me yes. Burrowed deep into my heart. Rends with my help ripped my heart out, destroyed it and the bane. I grew a new heart, corruption free. This was enough to appease the Wyld Gryphon spirit. Perhaps you scent the leftover remnants of that corruption, or do you scent other corruption that I am embarassingly unaware of?" Kefka tosses the cigarette on the ground and stamps it out. He then holds his arms out letting Bites the Snake get closer to find the source of the corruption.

Bites-the-Snake stood his ground, weighing his words carefully. "I know not of this griffin spirit, but I know you have faced the Balefire Phoenix. You are not of the Pure, so you do not know the stories of She who Births in Darkness. The northmen name her Akna, and whisper that she is a goddess of pain and fertility. Our brothers among the desert people know her as the Mother of Innumerable Hosts."

"I say this not to frighten you, Shadow Lord, for you have faced the Wyrm's spawn and triumphed. I say this to you as a warning: she is more potent than your realize, and more spiteful than you can imagine. She has laid a fell curse on you, one that may haunt you for the rest of your days."

The native werewolf turned away, and headed toward the gates of the graveyard.

Kefka's eyes grow wide as he hurries after Bites the Snake.

"I do appreciate the warning Bites the Snake... i was unaware I had been cursed. Do you know what type of curse? Or if there is a remedy or a way to break the curse?"

Kefka pauses and shakes his head.

"If not that is okay. When we hunt Akna down in the Umbra she will see how spiteful and unforgiving we Shadowlords are."

Bites-the-Snake half-turned to look back at Kefka. "Your valor is commendable. As for the curse, I do not know its affects for certain, but I can guess- it is likely related to her spheres of influence. Creation, birth, disease, and, eventually, death, are represented by the Balefire Phoenix. Breaking a spirit curse is beyond my power, but perhaps there are those among my kind who know how Akna's blight could be lifted." He began opening the graveyard gate.

"If your people know then I am in luck. We cannot defeat her for good without their help. I just hope we can reach them before the skin rippers or Jack. He will have his war now. With more support behind it than ever."

He sighs.

"Thank you again."

With a grim look Kefka shuts the gate behind Bites the Snake. Wanting to stay alone for a few hours more.
